Streetland Hill

The walk up Streetland Hill rewards you with proper Ribble Valley views - moorland stretching toward the Forest of Bowland, with Clitheroe's castle visible on a clear day. It's not a massive undertaking, more of a solid leg-stretcher than a full-day expedition, and the path is straightforward enough that families with reasonable fitness won't struggle.

What you get is a fairly open moorland peak with that particular Lancashire charm - windswept and honest rather than dramatic. The climb takes about 45 minutes from the base, and once you're up there, you can see why locals bother making the trip. On weekends it can get a bit busy with walkers, but nothing like the Pennine hotspots further east.

This works brilliantly as a morning outing if you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Hedgerow Luxury Glamping is closest at under two miles, or Thornton Hall if you want a more traditional holiday park setup. Combine it with a wander around Clitheroe itself, which has a decent high street and castle ruins worth an hour of your time.

Go on a day when the wind isn't too fierce and visibility is decent. Bog in winter, pleasant enough in spring and autumn. Free to walk, obviously. Don't expect a tearoom at the top or anything civilized like that - bring a flask if you're after a proper summit break.
