Lodge Hill

Standing at 310 metres above the Ribble Valley, Lodge Hill delivers one of Lancashire's most rewarding short climbs. The summit sits just northeast of Clitheroe, offering proper views across to Pendle Hill and the Yorkshire Dales beyond on clear days. Getting up takes about 45 minutes from the nearest parking spots along the lanes, though the final push is steeper than it looks from below.

Families with older children will manage this one fine - it's not technically challenging, just a steady slog through moorland and the occasional boggy patch. Walkers looking for a quick morning exercise before heading back to base will find it fits the bill perfectly. The reward at the top is worth the effort, particularly if you time it for late afternoon when the light catches the valley floor.

Being open access land, there's no charge and you can visit year-round, though wellies are advisable after rain. Allow two hours return including time to admire the view and catch your breath.
