Stony Park

About ten minutes from Saundersfoot, Stony Park is a proper working nature reserve that doesn't fuss about itself. It's the kind of place you stumble upon rather than plan around, tucked away in the Pembrokeshire countryside where the main point is simply to walk and look at what's actually there.

The reserve itself is open country - fields and scrub where you can spot skylarks, rabbits, and on a good day some of the rarer birds that use this bit of Wales as a stopover. There's no visitor centre, no café, none of that. You turn up and walk the paths at your own pace. Most people do it in under an hour, though you could easily spend longer if you've got binoculars and patience.

If you're staying at Folly Farm Holiday Park or Trees Caravan Park - both within a mile - this is an easy morning walk before breakfast or a late afternoon poke about. Families with young kids will find it a bit thin on entertainment; there's nowhere to buy a lolly or let them burn energy on proper play equipment. But for anyone actually interested in Pembrokeshire's natural side, or walkers who prefer something quieter than the coastal paths, it's worth the detour.

It's free to enter and accessible pretty much year-round, though it's best visited in spring and early summer when the birds are most active. Don't expect facilities - bring water and sensible shoes.
