St Tyfrydog's Church

The real gem of a visit to St Tyfrydog's Church is the walk to get there. Tucked away on the northern coast of Anglesey near Amlwch, this small medieval church sits in splendid isolation above a cove, and you'll need to make the effort to find it. The building itself is modest - a 12th-century structure with that lovely weathered stone you get in proper Welsh churches - but the setting is what stays with you. Stand outside and you're looking straight out over the Irish Sea with nothing between you and the horizon.

The church is dedicated to St Tyfrydog, a locally venerated saint, though honestly most visitors come for the coastal walk more than the ecclesiastical history. It's manageable for families with older kids, though the final descent is a bit steep and muddy depending on the weather. Allow an hour if you're combining it with a proper explore of the surrounding coastline - there's decent cliff walking in both directions. Free entry, naturally, and no set opening hours - it's one of those places you just turn up and hope the lych gate is open.

If you're based at one of the caravan parks within a few miles - Tyn Rhos over at Lligwy Bay is closest - this works as a proper half-day excursion away from the busier Anglesey attractions. It won't thrill you if you're after bustling seafront entertainment, but if you want quiet and genuine Welsh coastline without the crowds, it delivers.
