St Tudwen's Church, Llandudwen

A mile or so inland from the Pwllheli coast sits St Tudwen's Church, a proper little medieval chapel that most tourists whizz past without noticing. The building itself is nothing fancy - whitewashed walls, a small bell turret, the sort of place that's been doing its job quietly for about 600 years. What makes it worth the detour is the setting and the sense that you've stumbled onto something real, not packaged for visitors.

Inside, there's a simple nave with wooden pews and a few carved stones dotted about. The church is dedicated to St Tudwen, a Welsh saint whose story has mostly vanished into history. You won't find much interpretation or fuss here, which is rather the point. It's the kind of spot where walkers and local history types will spend twenty minutes poking about, while families with restless kids might manage five.

Access appears to be free and unrestricted, though it's worth checking locally in Pwllheli before you visit. The walk from town takes about thirty minutes, which makes it a decent leg-stretch if you're staying nearby. If you're based at one of the holiday parks - Tal-y-Fan is closest at under five miles away - it's an easy morning's ramble to work up an appetite for lunch back in Pwllheli.

Don't expect much in the way of facilities or information boards. This is a working village church, not a heritage attraction. That said, if you're into Welsh ecclesiastical architecture or just fancy a quiet wander, it's worth the trip.
