Mynytho Common

The walk up Mynytho Common rewards you with proper views across the Llŷn Peninsula - the kind of vista that makes the climb worthwhile without being gruelling. It's a modest peak by Welsh standards, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's a stroll; the path can be boggy and the wind picks up the higher you go.

You get a real sense of working Welsh moorland here rather than a polished tourist route. Sheep, open grassland, and on a clear day, glimpses towards the coast near Pwllheli. Most walkers can manage the summit in under an hour from the car, making it ideal if you're based at one of the nearby parks - Tal-y-Fan or Treheli Farm are close by - and want to stretch your legs without committing to a full day's hiking.

Families with older kids will find it manageable; younger ones might struggle with the muddy sections and the exposed ridge. Bring proper boots and waterproofs regardless of what the forecast says - the weather turns fast up here. It's free, naturally, and there's no formal infrastructure, so come prepared.

Worth the detour if you're exploring the peninsula anyway. Don't expect crowds or facilities, and you'll have the place largely to yourself, especially outside peak summer.
