St James Church

The church sits quietly at the heart of Llangammarch Wells, a village that doesn't shout about itself. St James is exactly what you'd expect from a rural Welsh parish church - solid stone, proper age, the kind of place where generations have marked their lives. Inside, there's genuine character: old monuments, decent stained glass, and that particular smell of old wood and stone that you either love or find slightly oppressive.

It works best for anyone with a genuine interest in local history or church architecture. If you're doing the church trail through mid-Wales, it's worth the stop. Kids will get restless unless they're the sort who like rubbing brass monuments and reading ancient names on the walls - maybe half an hour maximum. The walk to and from the village centre, though, is pleasant enough.

There's no charge to look round, and you can usually just turn up during daylight hours, though it's worth checking locally in winter as these places sometimes lock early. Don't make a special trip here unless you're based nearby - the real draw is combining it with the spa town atmosphere of Llangammarch Wells itself and the surrounding countryside.
