St James Church, Fordon

The church sits quietly in Fordon, a village just inland from Scarborough, and it's the kind of place you stumble upon rather than plan for. St James is a proper country parish church - solid, unshowy, the sort of building that's been doing its job for centuries without needing to shout about it.

Inside, there's genuine character. The architecture speaks to different periods of work and repair, and you get that satisfying sense of walking through layers of local history. It's not a showpiece like some of the grander churches you'll find along the coast, but that's rather the point. This is a working village church, and it feels it.
