Spittal Splash Park

The splash park sits right on Spittal beach, just outside Berwick-upon-Tweed, and it's the sort of place that makes sense on a hot summer afternoon when the kids need burning off. Water jets, shallow pools, and enough wet fun to keep under-tens entertained for a solid hour or so. Nothing fancy - it's functional seaside entertainment rather than some elaborate water park experience.

This works best for families with younger children. Once they hit about eleven or twelve, the appeal drops off sharply unless they're the type who still enjoy getting soaked with their mates. Adults? You'll spend most of your time watching and trying not to get splashed while checking your phone.

It's free, which helps justify the trip, and the location's proper convenient if you're camping at Berwick Seaview or staying at Haven Berwick Holiday Centre just up the road. The beach itself is decent for a walk afterwards, and you're close enough to Berwick's town centre for an ice cream or fish and chips to round off the afternoon.

Timing matters here. Go mid-morning on a school day and you'll have room to breathe. Summer holidays mean queues and chaos. Weather-dependent too - on a drizzly day it loses its appeal entirely. Best saved for that rare Scottish sunshine that makes the east coast actually worth visiting.
