Snodhill Castle

What remains of this 11th-century Norman stronghold perches dramatically on a hill overlooking the Golden Valley, about eight miles west of Hereford. The ruins might not look like much from a distance - mostly earthworks and fragments of stone walls - but the setting is properly spectacular.

History buffs will appreciate the castle's role in the Welsh border conflicts, while anyone who enjoys a good ramble will find the walk up worthwhile for the views alone.
