Season's Fountain

The fountain sits in Buckingham town centre, a rather grand Victorian water feature that's been catching locals' eyes for generations. It's the sort of thing you stumble upon while wandering the high street - ornate ironwork, tiered basins, and enough decorative flourish to remind you this town once took itself seriously as a market centre.

Truthfully, it's a five-minute stop rather than a destination in itself. You'll photograph it, read the inscription if you're the type, maybe sit on a nearby bench for a few minutes. The appeal is more about understanding Buckingham's Victorian prosperity than expecting theatre. Kids won't be mesmerised, but it's free and right there if you're passing through anyway.

The real value comes if you're basing yourself at one of the local campsites - Hedgehog Retreat is barely a mile away, and Dadford Road Campsite only two miles out. You could easily pop into town between visits to the broader Buckinghamshire countryside. Silverstone Farm Campsite is further afield at 4.5 miles if you're combining a motor racing interest with exploring the area.

Buckingham itself is worth an hour or so of your time - the Old Gaol, the Swan theatre, decent pubs - and the fountain fits naturally into a gentle wander. Go if you're nearby. Don't go out of your way for it. The real charm of this part of Buckinghamshire lies in the smaller villages and country walks around it.
