Scalestones Point

The walk up to Scalestones Point rewards you with proper views across Morecambe Bay - the kind of panorama that makes the scramble worthwhile. It's not a difficult trek, but it's not a stroll either; the path winds up towards this limestone outcrop near Carnforth, and once you reach the top, you're looking out over the bay with the Lake District fells in the distance on a clear day. The rocks themselves are dramatic, weathered white against the moorland, and on an afternoon when the light's right it's genuinely striking.

Walkers will get the most from this one. Families with young children might find the ascent a bit much depending on their ages, but teenagers who can handle a decent incline will find it exhilarating rather than gruelling. The actual summit area is compact - you won't spend hours up there - but it's the kind of spot you'll want to linger with a flask and a view. Allow a couple of hours for the full outing, longer if you're not a fast walker.

If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Bay View, Crook O'Lune, or Parkdean Resorts Ocean Edge - this makes a solid half-day excursion. It's close enough to Carnforth that you could easily fit it around other activities, and it's the type of viewpoint that separates a decent holiday from one where you've actually explored somewhere properly. Free to visit, naturally, being a public moorland walk.
