Roman ditch

You'll find yourself standing in a quiet field near Birchington, looking at what amounts to a very long ditch. Not exactly Instagram-worthy, but it's genuinely Roman - part of Caesar's defensive line from around 54 BC when he invaded Britain. It works well as part of a broader Roman Britain trail if you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks like Birchington Vale or Sandwich Leisure. Pair it with Richborough Roman Fort just down the road for a proper day of it. Late spring through early autumn is best - you'll want decent weather to trudge about and actually enjoy the views across the countryside.
