Priory Woodlands

The woodland trails at Priory Woodlands offer a proper escape from Haverfordwest's bustle - dense trees, soft forest floor underfoot, and enough peace to actually hear birdsong. It's ancient woodland, the kind where light filters through in that particular way that makes you slow down without meaning to.

Walkers will find this straightforward and rewarding. The paths are well-defined, manageable for most fitness levels, and you can easily spend two to three hours exploring without feeling rushed. Children aged six upwards will enjoy it more than toddlers - there's nothing too strenuous, but it's not a push-along buggy terrain either. If you're after a quick leg-stretch, thirty minutes will do. If you want to properly disappear into the woods, double that.

There's no visitor centre or facilities that I'm aware of, so come prepared - water, snacks, decent shoes. Spring brings bluebells across the forest floor, which is genuinely lovely. Winter's fine too if you don't mind damp; autumn gets a bit muddy but nothing alarming.

Stay at Quarry Park Camping or Little Welsh Wood - both are five to six miles away and rated highly - and use Priory Woodlands as your morning walk before heading into Haverfordwest town for lunch. It's exactly the kind of straightforward woodland walk that makes a camping holiday feel properly restorative rather than just ticking boxes. No frills, just trees and space.
