The woodland around Tonbridge holds proper character, and Parsonage Wood delivers the sort of quiet forest walk that justifies a morning out without fanfare. It's ancient working woodland - the kind where you'll find managed coppice, rough paths that switch between muddy and leaf-strewn depending on the season, and enough green cover to feel genuinely detached from the world despite being within spitting distance of town.

You're looking at a straightforward woodland ramble here. No visitor centre, no facilities, just trees and the occasional glimpse of what passes for openness in the Kent Weald. The paths are decent enough if you're comfortable with uneven ground, though they're not maintained to any formal standard. A hour or two is realistic unless you're the type to sit on logs and contemplate moss - which, fair enough, some people are.

Families with young kids might find it a bit samey after forty minutes. Walkers after a proper forest experience, or anyone just after a break from Tonbridge proper, will get their money's worth. There's no charge that I'm aware of, and no gates or opening hours nonsense.

If you're based at one of the nearby camping spots - Tanner Farm, Still Acres, or Hopgarden are all within four miles - it's a useful addition to your itinerary rather than a destination in itself. Pair it with a walk into Tonbridge itself if the weather's being difficult. The wood's at its best in autumn when the paths aren't quite so churned up.
