Parking for Lon Eifion cycle trail

The car park for Lon Eifion is basically your jumping-off point for one of North Wales' best-kept cycling routes, sitting just outside Garndolbenmaen in Gwynedd. It's nothing fancy - a straightforward lay-by where you can safely leave your vehicle before heading onto the trail itself. The cycle path runs for miles along a disused railway line, which means gentle gradients and proper smooth tarmac underfoot. You get proper rural scenery: open moorland, distant mountain views, and the sort of peace you don't find on busier routes.

Cyclists will get the most from this, obviously - families with younger riders especially, since the flat gradient makes it manageable even for kids who aren't confident. The route takes you through some genuinely wild-feeling terrain without requiring serious fitness levels. Allow a couple of hours minimum if you're planning a decent ride out and back.

For campers based at Aberafon, Haven Hafan y Môr, or Gyrn Ddu - all within six miles or so - this makes an excellent half-day excursion. Pop your bikes on the van, drive over in the morning, and you've got a proper activity that doesn't rely on weather or booking in advance. It's the sort of place where you'll see locals out with their kids and dogs, not tourists queuing for photos. Free to use, no facilities at the car park itself, but Garndolbenmaen is close enough if you need a café or loo break before you head out.
