Moel Isallt

Standing 2,251 feet above sea level, this unassuming peak offers surprisingly rewarding views across the Moelwyn range and down to Cardigan Bay. The walk up from Garndolbenmaen takes about an hour and a half, following a well-trodden but steep path that'll get your heart pumping.

Moel Isallt won't feature on many tourist itineraries, which is precisely what makes it special. You'll likely have the summit to yourself, even on decent weather days. The views north towards Snowdon are proper spectacular, while the southern outlook takes in the Rhinogs and coast beyond Harlech.

This one's for walkers who appreciate quieter hills over crowded honeypots. Families with older children will manage fine, though the final approach requires a bit of scrambling over loose stone. Allow three hours return from the village, and pack waterproofs - the weather changes fast up here.

The peak sits conveniently between several holiday parks, making it an excellent day out from bases like Haven Greenacres or Beddgelert Campsite. It's free to climb, naturally, and accessible year-round, though winter conditions can be challenging. Best tackled on clear days when those coastal views really sing. Not the most famous mountain in Wales, but sometimes the lesser-known summits deliver the most satisfying experiences.
