Park Hill

The walk up Park Hill from Lingfield takes about twenty minutes if you're steady on your feet, and the reward is a proper viewpoint across the Surrey Weald. You're looking out towards the Low Weald from high ground - nothing alpine about it, but on a clear day you can see the landscape roll away in layers of green and farmland. The summit itself is modest, no trig point or dramatic rocky outcrop, just a slight rise where the trees thin out enough to let you breathe and look around.

This is walkers' territory, genuinely. Families with small children might find it a bit of a slog for what amounts to a pastoral view rather than anything visually stunning. Older kids who like a gentle ramble will get on fine with it. History buffs won't find much here beyond the landscape itself, though the walk passes through countryside that's been farmed for centuries.

The nearest town is Lingfield, which has decent facilities and makes sense as a base if you're camping in the area. Long Acres Caravan & Camping Park is about three and a half miles south, or if you fancy something with more creature comforts, their glamping set-up has solid reviews. Alderstead Heath is a bit further but well-regarded.

Allow an hour return from Lingfield town centre if you're not rushing. Go in the late afternoon when the light gets warm across the fields. It's free, obviously - it's just a walk up a hill. Not dramatic enough to plan a day around, but if you're based nearby for a week, it's worth doing once.
