Naughtberry Hill

The walk up Naughtberry Hill from Leyburn takes about forty minutes if you're fit and not stopping every five minutes for photos. It's a proper fell walk - steep in places, muddy if the weather's been kind to the rain gods, and the sort of climb that makes you feel like you've actually earned the view when you reach the top.

From the summit you're looking across Wensleydale with the Pennines rolling away behind. On a clear day it's genuinely excellent. The hill itself isn't a scramble or anything technical - just a steady push upward through farmland and moorland with the kind of views that get better the higher you go.

It works best for walkers who don't mind a bit of a grunt. Families with older kids will manage it fine. Solo hikers and fell runners do the circuit regularly. You'll want a couple of hours total if you're going to enjoy the top rather than just gasping for breath and heading straight back down.

Free to access, as with most Yorkshire hills. No facilities up there, so bring water. The nearby Stablefell Holidays and Campsite is only five miles away, making this a decent morning or afternoon walk if you're based in the area. Combine it with a wander round Leyburn itself or tackle some of the other Wensleydale walks nearby. Weather matters here - go when it's clear or you'll be walking through cloud wondering why you bothered.
