Moffat Pump Track (Built by ON TRACK.)

The Moffat Pump Track is a purpose-built cycling circuit that sits just outside the market town of Moffat in Dumfries & Galloway. ON TRACK constructed it as a proper bike park where riders of all abilities can practice their skills without needing pedal power - you use body weight and momentum to flow through berms, rollers, and jumps. It's the kind of place where a nervous eight-year-old can build confidence in a morning, or where teenagers will happily spend hours perfecting their technique.

The track itself is free to use, which makes it excellent value for families based at nearby Moffat Camping and Caravanning Club Site or Howslack Farm caravan site. You'll need a bike obviously, though the surface works for BMX, mountain bikes, and even scooters. Allow two to three hours if you're getting the most from it - first-timers spend time working out the rhythm, whilst confident riders loop it repeatedly trying different lines.

It works brilliantly as a mid-holiday activity rather than a full day out. Moffat itself has decent cafes and shops, so you can combine a morning session here with lunch in town. The wider area offers proper walking on the hills beyond, so it slots neatly into a mixed-activity break rather than a cycling-focused trip. Fair warning though: if your kids aren't bike-confident or interested in that kind of play, they'll be bored within half an hour. It's specialist enough that it works best for families who already ride together.
