Station Park

Station Park sits on the edge of Moffat, a modest nature reserve that punches above its weight if you're after a proper walk through woodland and riverside scenery. The Annan Water runs through it, and there's a decent network of paths that take you past mature trees, across open grassland, and down to the water's edge. Walkers will find it rewarding - the terrain's manageable without being boring, and the river provides genuine interest throughout.

It's free to access and works brilliantly as a half-day break from campsite life. The Moffat Camping and Caravanning Club Site is practically on the doorstep, making it ideal if you're based there. You can easily spend two hours exploring without rushing, though thirty minutes would suffice if you're just after a leg-stretch. The park fills a real gap - close enough to town for convenience, far enough from the car park to feel like you've genuinely escaped.

Families with younger kids might find the paths a touch muddy in places, and there's not much in the way of facilities, so bring everything with you. The real value here is as a morning or early-evening stomp before dinner at one of Moffat's decent pubs. Howslack Farm and Riverside Holiday Park are both within easy driving distance if you're based elsewhere in the area. Don't expect drama - you won't get it - but if you want honest Scottish woodland with a river to follow, Station Park delivers.
