Moelfre Uchaf

The walk up Moelfre Uchaf from Abergele is straightforward enough, and the effort pays off with views across Conwy and inland towards Snowdonia. It's not a major peak - you're looking at a couple of hours for the round trip if you're reasonably fit - but it's the sort of hill that rewards you without requiring specialist gear or a dawn start.

The summit itself is modest, all wild moorland and the occasional stone cairn. On a clear day the vista opens up properly: you can pick out the Conwy estuary to the north and the mountains stacking up inland. Cloud rolls in quickly though, so timing matters. I'd avoid the drizzly days that Wales specializes in.

This is walker's terrain rather than family sledging ground. Young kids might find the ascent tedious, and it's not the kind of place to linger for a picnic unless you've timed the weather perfectly. But if you're staying at Plas Farm Caravan & Lodge Park just down the road - barely a mile away - it's a proper outing that feels earned without being punishing.

It works well as part of a longer exploring day around North Wales. The nearby parks put you within striking distance of bigger attractions, but Moelfre Uchaf is the sort of local walk that caravan-park visitors often skip in favour of guidebook hotspots. They're missing out. Free to access, naturally - it's just moorland. Allow two hours minimum.
