Families with young children should probably look elsewhere. The terrain gets boggy after rain, and navigation skills help when the mist rolls in from the coast. But for confident walkers wanting a bit of solitude, it delivers. The summit cairn marks a lovely spot for lunch, with views south towards the Denbigh Moors when the weather plays ball.

Combines well with a stay at nearby holiday parks like Plas Farm or Wern Farm - both within six miles. Early morning starts work best before the heat builds, and you'll often have the hill to yourself midweek. Allow three hours return from the village, longer if you're stopping to admire the views or having a proper picnic at the top. Free to access, naturally, though parking in Abergele might cost a few pounds depending where you leave the car.
