Moelfre

Standing at 589 metres, this rounded peak delivers surprisingly good views for such a modest height. The summit sits just inland from Penmaenmawr, offering a proper workout without the commitment of tackling something like Snowdon. Most visitors approach from the south via forest tracks, though the route can get muddy after rain.

Walkers who enjoy a challenge without the crowds will find this spot well worth the effort. The climb takes around two hours return from the car park, following clear paths through mixed woodland before emerging onto open moorland. Views stretch across the Menai Strait to Anglesey on clear days, with the Snowdonia peaks forming a dramatic backdrop inland.

Families with older children might fancy the adventure, but little ones will struggle with the steep sections near the top. The path isn't technical, just relentless in places. Early morning visits work best - you'll often have the summit to yourself before 10am.
