Standing at 375 metres, this modest hill offers surprisingly good views across the Snowdonia coast without the crowds that swarm higher peaks. The summit sits just inland from Harlech, making it a proper alternative for families staying at nearby holiday parks who fancy a hill walk but don't want to tackle the big mountains. From the top, you'll see Harlech Castle below and the sweep of Cardigan Bay stretching south. On clear days, the Llyn Peninsula appears across the water. The walk up takes about 45 minutes from the nearest parking spot, following fairly clear paths through heather and grass. It's steep enough to get the heart pumping but not so brutal that you'll put the kids off walking forever. Weather can change quickly up here, so pack layers even if it looks sunny down in Harlech. Most visitors combine this with a trip to the castle or the beach, and it works well as a morning exercise before spending the afternoon somewhere more sheltered. If you're staying at one of the caravan parks around Harlech like Woodlands or Castle View, this makes a decent leg-stretcher that doesn't require driving far. Allow two hours return including time at the summit.
