Moel Llechwedd-Figyn

The walk up Moel Llechwedd-Figyn from Bala is properly rewarding, especially if you catch it on a clear day when the views across the Dee Valley open up in front of you. It's not a massive peak - barely 600 metres - but that works in its favour. You get genuine mountain air and decent panoramas without needing a full day's expedition.

The approach is straightforward enough for families who don't mind a steady climb, though the last bit gets a touch steep. Most people manage it in under an hour from the start. The summit itself is bare and windswept, which somehow makes the views feel more earned. On a good day you can see right across to Snowdonia. Poor visibility? You'll basically get cloud and not much else, so timing matters.

This works well as a morning walk if you're based at Tyn Cornel Camping or Porth Eryri Glamping - both are close enough that you can be back for lunch without faffing about. It's the sort of peak that appeals to walkers wanting something real but not intimidating, and to anyone visiting Bala who fancies getting up into the hills without committing to a full day trek. The mountain itself is free to access, naturally. Bring a map though - there are a few paths converging in the area and signposting is minimal. Go early to avoid the afternoon crowds that build up in summer, and dress for changeable weather. North Wales mountains turn on you quickly.
