Moel Eilio

The walk up Moel Eilio is properly rewarding, even if the peak itself isn't the highest in Conwy. Starting from Llanrwst - a proper little market town worth a proper pint in - you're looking at a steady climb through woodland that opens up to moorland. The views across the Conwy Valley justify every step.

What you get is moorland walking with real structure. The path is well-trodden and the ascent, while constant, isn't brutal. On a clear day you can see right across to Snowdon. The summit's a bit bare compared to the forests below, but that's where the views come in - they're absolutely cracking from up there.

This works best for walkers with a couple of hours to spare and decent boots. Kids will manage it fine if they're used to hills. The route doesn't require any scrambling or technical stuff, just steady legs and patience. Allow two to three hours there and back depending on fitness.

If you're camped at one of the spots nearby - Maenan Abbey or Erw Glas are closest at under three miles - you can knock this out in a morning and still have the afternoon free. It's also the kind of walk that doesn't require perfect weather, though morning mist can be annoying for the views. Worth doing sooner rather than later if you're in the area.
