Mine Hill

The walk up Mine Hill near Bodmin is straightforward enough, but the payoff is genuinely rewarding. Once you're at the top, you get proper 360-degree views across the moorland and the surrounding hills - on a clear day you can see right across to the coast. It's the sort of place where you'll want to linger and maybe bring a flask.

The hill itself is relatively modest in height, which means families with decent walkers can manage it without drama. You'll pass old tin workings on the way up if you know where to look, which adds a bit of local history interest without feeling forced. Allow a couple of hours for the round trip depending on your pace and how long you spend standing around enjoying the views.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It connects well with other moorland trails in the area, so you can easily string a longer day together if you're staying nearby. The nearby Camp De Lank and Rosebud Farm are both excellent bases - splurge on a glamping pod at Camp De Lank if you want a bit of comfort, or stick with traditional touring at Rosebud if you prefer the classic caravan experience.

Access appears to be free, which is refreshing. Go early on a sunny day if you can, before the light starts getting soft and golden - that's when the views really sing. It's worth the detour if you're exploring Bodmin Moor properly, though it's not a destination in itself.
