Fenacre Stone Circle

Getting to Fenacre Stone Circle feels properly remote, which is exactly what you want from a Bronze Age monument. You're looking at a small cluster of standing stones on moorland between Bodmin and Altarnun - the kind of place where the wind does the talking and sheep are your only company. It's not flashy. There are no visitor facilities, no interpretation boards, and that's rather the point.

The stones themselves are modest by Cornish circle standards, but what they lack in scale they make up for in atmosphere. You get the genuine sense of stumbling on something ancient without the crowds you'd find at more famous sites. Allow twenty minutes to half an hour to walk around and soak it in - longer if you're the type to sit and contemplate.

This is for walkers and archaeology enthusiasts more than casual day-trippers. Kids might find it dull unless you're good at storytelling. There's nothing to do here except be there, which filters out the bored-in-five-minutes crowd nicely. The moorland around it is cracking for exploring, so pair it with a proper walk rather than treating it as a tick-box stop.

If you're staying at Camp De Lank or Ekopod Glamping nearby, this is absolutely worth the short drive. Access is free and unrestricted, though you'll need decent footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. Go early in the day to avoid what little foot traffic there is. The light across the moor in late afternoon is superb for photography.
