Lurgan Hill

The walk up Lurgan Hill from Crieff rewards you with proper Highland views across Perthshire without demanding anything too strenuous. It's a decent hill rather than a mountain - you're looking at maybe 1,200 feet of height - but the climb pays its way with wide-angle views of the Tay Valley and the Ochil Hills rolling off into the distance.

The route takes you through farmland and moorland, so it's straightforward enough. Most people can manage it in a couple of hours there and back. The summit itself isn't dramatic - no rocky peak or trig point theatre - but on a clear day the panorama across Strathearn is genuinely good. On a murky Scottish day, less so, but that's what you sign up for here.

This is walker territory rather than Instagram fodder. Families with older kids will find it manageable; younger ones might flag on the climb. The path can get boggy after rain, so proper boots matter. There's no admission charge or facilities on the hill itself - you're either parking near Crieff and heading off on foot, or incorporating it into a longer hike.

It's the sort of walk that breaks up a week in Perthshire without requiring serious kit or navigation skills, though you should still take a map.
