Creag Each

The walk up Creag Each from Crieff rewards you with proper Highland views without requiring a full day's commitment. It's a tidy little peak that punches above its weight - you get genuine mountain scenery from what amounts to an afternoon outing rather than an expedition.

The ascent takes roughly two hours depending on your fitness and how often you stop to admire the Tay Valley sprawling below. On a clear day you can see right across to the Grampians. The path is well-trodden and straightforward enough, though it does get steep towards the summit, so bring decent walking boots rather than trainers. Weather can shift quickly up here, so waterproofs aren't optional even when it looks settled from Crieff.

Walkers will love this more than families with young children - the payoff is genuinely good, but there's not much to do once you've summited beyond eating a sandwich and taking photos. Older kids who can manage the climb will find it satisfying. It's free, obviously, since it's a hillside.

The location makes it brilliant for a long weekend based at one of the nearby caravan parks like Comrie Croft or Twenty Shilling Wood. You can couple it with gentler walks around Crieff itself or tackle it as a standalone morning before heading to somewhere lower-key in the afternoon. Don't expect facilities at the top - bring everything with you.
