About Longaford Tor
It's the sort of place that works brilliantly for walkers wanting something straightforward without committing to an eight-hour hike. Families with older kids can manage it in an afternoon. The views back towards Tavistock and across the moor are genuinely good, especially on a clear day - you can see for miles in most directions. On a grey afternoon though, it feels a bit bleak and exposed, so come prepared for wind and weather.
You'll want to allow two to three hours door-to-door if you're factoring in the walk, a bit of scrambling about on top, and the amble back down. There's no charge that we could find, and no facilities at the tor itself - bring water and snacks.
If you're basing yourself at Langstone Manor or exploring Dartmoor National Park, Longaford makes a solid half-day excursion. It's close enough to Tavistock for a morning visit before heading elsewhere, but rewarding enough to justify the trip if you're already in the area.
