Llandegley Rocks

The walk up to Llandegley Rocks takes about forty minutes from the car park, and it's steep enough that you'll feel it in your legs but not so brutal you'll hate the route. What makes it worth the effort is the payoff: you get proper 360-degree views across the Radnorshire hills, with Llandrindod Wells visible in the distance below. The rocks themselves are a jumble of red sandstone outcrops at the summit - nothing dramatic, but they're good for scrambling around if you've got kids who need entertaining.

This is very much a walker's destination rather than a casual stroll. You're looking at a solid ninety minutes round trip if you dawdle, and the terrain can be muddy even days after rain. Summer weekends bring families up here, but it never feels overrun. The views are genuine hill-country stuff - rolling valleys, not dramatic peaks, so manage expectations accordingly.

If you're based at Presteigne Holiday Park or Fforest Fields nearby, both only five miles or so away, this makes an excellent half-day outing. You could knock it off before lunch and still have the afternoon free. The minor roads from either park take you straight there with minimal faffing about. No facilities at the top itself, so bring water and a packed lunch if you're planning to sit and soak it in. Free to visit, and the car park is straightforward to find.
