Aberedw Hill

The walk up Aberedw Hill takes you through proper Mid Wales countryside, with views that stretch across the Wye Valley when you reach the top. It's a steady climb from the village of Aberedw, just outside Llandrindod Wells, and the whole thing takes around an hour or so depending on your pace and how long you want to linger at the summit.

What you get is a genuine vantage point over the surrounding hills and moorland - the sort of place where you can actually see how the landscape fits together. On a clear day the views are worth the effort. It's not a dramatic peak by any means, but it's a proper hill walk rather than a casual stroll, so come prepared with decent boots and a map if you're not local.

This works well for walkers who want something achievable without needing a full day out. Families with older kids will manage it fine, though younger ones might find the climb a bit much. History buffs should know there's an Iron Age fort on the summit, though you won't see much beyond some earthworks these days.

If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Fforest Fields is barely two miles away, with Penmaenau Farm Camping just over three - you could easily fit this in as a morning or afternoon outing without driving far. Llandrindod Wells itself makes a good base if you're combining this with other walks in the area. No facilities on the hill itself, so bring water.
