Little Mis Tor

The walk up to Little Mis Tor is proper Dartmoor - bracken, gorse, and the kind of wind that makes you question your life choices. It's a modest peak by any standard, nothing like Ben Nevis drama, but that's precisely what makes it work. You get genuine moorland views without needing climbing gear or a full day of trudging.

From the summit you're looking out across Tavistock's valley and the wider sweep of Dartmoor. On a clear day it's worth the knee-knocking descent. On a misty day, well, you'll see why people find moorland slightly unnerving. The rock formations at the top are underwhelming honestly - nothing to get excited about photographically - but the walk itself rewards you with the kind of solitude you won't find on more famous peaks.

Tavistock sits just a few miles down, so this works brilliantly as a half-day outing if you're based there or staying at Langstone Manor. It's family-friendly if your kids are walkers (older ones, realistically - the moorland has no fences and drops catch you out). Allow an hour return from the car park. Go early on weekends because the car park fills up fast, and frankly an empty moor beats a crowded one every time.
