Lekerock Cove Beach

The walk down to Lekerock Cove catches you off guard. From the clifftop path near Looe, you descend quite steeply through wooded scrub until suddenly the beach opens up below - a proper little amphitheatre of golden sand hemmed in by dramatic rock formations. It's the sort of cove that feels like you've found something genuinely quiet, even in high summer.

The rocks themselves are the real draw here. They're dark, sculptural things that jut out from the sand at angles, creating natural pools and sheltered spots. Low tide is when this place comes alive - you can scramble about, poke around the rock pools, hunt for crabs and anemones. The beach itself is narrow but workable, backed by a thin strip of grass and those steep cliffs that tower above.

Families with older kids will get the most from it. The scramble down isn't for pushchairs, and the rocks demand sure-footedness, but kids who enjoy exploring will be occupied for hours. It's less of a sunbathing beach and more of an adventure playground.

With Killigarth Manor and Tencreek holiday parks just under a mile away, you could easily make this a morning or late-afternoon outing from your base. The cove itself is free to access - there's nowhere to buy refreshments, so bring supplies. Allow a couple of hours minimum if you're with children keen on rock pool hunting. Go early or late in the day when it's less crowded. The cliffs keep afternoon sun at bay, which can make it feel rather chilly come late August, so dress accordingly.
