King Arthur's Hall

Out on Bodmin Moor, King Arthur's Hall is essentially a Bronze Age stone circle - though the name tells you everything about how locals have spun the mythology over centuries. You'll find 42 standing stones arranged in an oval pattern, weathered smooth by thousands of years of Cornish wind and rain. It's not flashy. There's no visitor centre, no car park attendant, just you and the moor stretching out in all directions.

Walkers and history types will get more out of this than casual drivers-by. The site demands a proper walk across open moorland - it's not wheelchair-friendly, and you'll need decent boots if the ground's wet. Allow 45 minutes to an hour to get there and spend time exploring the stones themselves. The real pull is the atmosphere: standing among the circles, you genuinely feel the weight of three thousand years. Bodmin is the nearest town if you need supplies or a decent pub afterwards.

It's completely free and accessible year-round, though winter storms can make the approach treacherous. Summer and early autumn are better bets. Families with young kids might find the walk tedious and the stones themselves a bit underwhelming compared to flashier Cornish attractions. But if you're based at Camp De Lank or Rosebud Farm for a park holiday, this is exactly the sort of offbeat detour that makes Bodmin Moor worth exploring properly. Don't expect crowds. That's the appeal.
