Jubilee Rock

You'll find Jubilee Rock tucked away on the moorland above Bodmin, a granite outcrop carved with the initials VR and a crown to mark Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897. It's not a grand monument - just a rock, really - but there's something rather satisfying about stumbling across it during a walk across the moors.

The site sits on open ground with decent views across Bodmin Moor, and the walk to reach it is the main event. You're looking at an easy moorland stroll that takes twenty minutes or so from the nearest car park, depending on the exact route. History buffs will appreciate the Victorian backstory, though if you're after dramatic Cornish monuments, this is more understated than some.

It works perfectly if you're based at one of the local parks - Camp De Lank is practically on your doorstep, less than a mile away, making it an ideal half-hour diversion on a morning walk. Rosebud Farm, a few miles further out, also puts you well positioned for the moors. Kids won't be particularly gripped unless they're into carving initials in rocks themselves, but walkers and anyone keen on local history will find it a worthwhile addition to a ramble.

Free, obviously. No facilities at the rock itself, but Bodmin is close enough for anything you might need. Best visited on a clear day when the moor views actually count for something.
