About Haw
The summit itself is modest. You get a trig point and sweeping views south across the Aire Valley towards Ilkley and beyond. On a clear day you can pick out the shape of Pendle Hill further south. The real appeal here is the walk itself, not some grand monument at the top.
This is walker territory, pure and simple. Families with young children might find the gradient a slog, and it's not the sort of peak that rewards a quick twenty-minute visit. Plan for two to three hours if you're starting from Keighley. The moorland is exposed, so go in decent weather - rain makes the paths genuinely treacherous.
If you're based at Tip Top Campsite or Woodsworth Exploring, both just down the road, Haw works as a solid morning outing before heading elsewhere. The approach from Keighley takes you past working farms and proper gritstone villages - it's moorland hiking as it should be, not prettified for postcards. Bring a windproof.
