Brocka Bank Hill

The walk up Brocka Bank Hill, just outside Keighley, is one of those straightforward Yorkshire climbs that doesn't pretend to be anything grander than it is. You're not getting Alpine drama here, but you do get proper moorland views and a real sense of effort rewarded once you reach the top. The hill itself is modest in height but the surrounding landscape - gritstone edges, rolling fell country, the kind of terrain that makes you understand why the Pennines matter - makes it worth the trek.

It's a solid hour's walk from the road, mostly on clear paths, though conditions can be boggy after rain. The summit gives you sight lines across to Pendle Hill and back towards the industrial heritage of the valley below. Walkers after a proper leg-stretcher without committing to a full day on the moors will find this genuinely satisfying. Families with children who can manage an hour's steady climbing will get there, though very small kids might struggle with the pace.

Stay at Brown Bank Caravan Park, barely a mile away, or push out to Bolton Abbey Estate if you want something with more facilities. Either way, you're well-placed for exploring the moorland around here - Brocka Bank works as a warm-up walk before tackling the bigger peaks further north. Go early on weekends to avoid the modest but growing foot traffic. No facilities at the summit itself, so bring water.
