Hasfield Hill

Standing at 240 feet above the Severn Vale, this modest hill north of Gloucester delivers views that punch well above its weight. The gentle climb through mixed woodland and pasture takes about 20 minutes from the village of Hasfield below, making it an easy win for families with children who need convincing that walking can be worth the effort.

From the summit, the panorama stretches across the Severn floodplains towards the Forest of Dean, with the cathedral spire of Gloucester clearly visible to the south. On clear days, you can pick out the Malvern Hills rising to the east. It's not dramatic stuff, but it's properly pleasant countryside viewing that makes you appreciate why the Cotswolds AONB boundary runs so close by.

Walkers will find this more of a leg-stretcher than a proper challenge, though it links nicely with longer routes through the surrounding farmland. History enthusiasts might be interested to know the hill sits on ancient flood deposits from when this whole area was regularly underwater.
