Standing at 1,096 feet above sea level, this modest peak sits between the tourist magnets of Snowdon and the Glyderau range, offering determined walkers a proper alternative to the weekend crowds. The summit rewards you with surprisingly good views across to Anglesey and down the Llanberis Pass - though it's fair to say you'll work harder for less dramatic scenery than you'd get on its famous neighbours.

Experienced hill walkers will appreciate the relatively straightforward ascent from Nant Peris, though the boggy sections near the top can be a right pain after rain. Families with older children might find it manageable, but this isn't one for the casual Sunday stroll crowd. Allow three hours return from the village, and definitely pack proper walking boots.

What makes Elidir Fach worthwhile is precisely that it's not Snowdon. You'll likely have the summit to yourself, even on busy weekends when the car parks around Llanberis are rammed. The walk fits well into a longer stay at nearby Llanberis Touring Park or Snowdon View Holiday Park - perfect for those days when the main peaks are shrouded in cloud but you still fancy getting your boots muddy. Just don't expect Instagram-worthy drama at the top.
