Earl's Hill

The walk up Earl's Hill takes about twenty minutes if you're moving at a decent pace, and the view from the top justifies the leg work. You get a proper panorama across the Shropshire countryside - rolling fields, distant hills, and on a clear day you can pick out the Welsh border. The summit's crowned with an Iron Age hillfort, though the earthworks are subtle enough that you need to know what you're looking at to appreciate them fully.

It's a straightforward ascent from the car park near Shrewsbury - nothing technical, just steady gradient through woodland that opens onto grassland. The path's well-trodden and takes families without trouble, though younger kids might find the final push a bit of a slog. Allow an hour there and back if you're taking it slowly.

Walkers based at Eastridge Glamping or By the Wood Campsite - both within spitting distance - could easily make this a morning outing before heading into Shrewsbury for lunch. Spring Lea Holiday Park lies even closer if you're after somewhere with facilities. It's not a dramatic peak like you'd find further west, but it's the sort of walk that reminds you why the Midlands get overlooked. Quiet. Uncluttered. Worth doing.
