About Dol Gledr
What you get at the summit is a full panorama across Snowdonia's southern reaches. The Mawddach valley spreads out below you like a map, and on a clear day the views south toward Cader Idris are excellent. The rocky top itself is modest - this isn't Snowdon - but that's fine. It feels less manicured, less performative than the big names.
Walkers will genuinely enjoy this one. It's got enough elevation to feel like proper exercise without requiring technical skill or scrambling. Families with teenage kids who don't mind a steep gradient would manage it, though younger children might find it tedious. The route is straightforward enough, though navigation in mist could be tricky.
If you're staying at one of the campsites dotted around Dolgellau - Graig Wen, Torrent Walk, or the others within five miles - this makes an ideal half-day outing. Park in Dolgellau itself and set off early to avoid afternoon cloud cover rolling in. Allow three to four hours for a comfortable round trip with a proper rest at the top.
