History buffs will find it rewarding; casual tourists might find the lack of interpretation boards and infrastructure frustrating. There's no visitor centre, no café, no facilities whatsoever. You need to know what you're looking at, which means bringing a good guidebook or doing your homework beforehand.

The nearest town is Llanbedr, a quiet coastal spot that's well-positioned for exploring this corner of Gwynedd. If you're staying at Shell Island - the five-star option nearby - or one of the caravan parks in the area, this makes a solid half-day outing. The walk itself is the main event, frankly. The archaeological remains are the icing on the cake, the reason to choose one moorland route over another. Go in clearer weather; on a misty day you'll struggle to see much beyond your boots.
