Cocket Height, Settlement

Cocket Height sits on a windswept hillside near Moffat, and honestly, you need to know what you're looking for to get much from it. This is a Bronze Age settlement - basically, the remains of roundhouse foundations scattered across the moorland, dating back around 3,000 years. If you're into archaeology or prehistory, the site offers a genuine chance to stand where people actually lived in ancient Scotland. The views across Dumfries and Galloway are proper impressive, mind you.

That said, there's no visitor centre, no interpretive boards, no facilities. You'll need to do your homework beforehand or bring someone who knows their stuff, otherwise it's just bumpy ground with a few subtle earthworks. The walk itself is fine - nothing too demanding - but allow an hour to properly explore without rushing.
