Cockerill Hil Plantation

Cockerill Hill Plantation is a proper woodland walk just outside Bridlington, the sort of place where you can lose an hour without really trying. It's genuinely quiet - not the manicured country estate sort of quiet, but actual forest where you might spot deer if you're lucky and the light's right.

What you get is straightforward: mixed woodland, some decent paths, and enough trees to make you forget you're near the coast. The plantation itself is fairly compact, so don't expect to wander for hours unless you're the sort who likes to sit on logs and read. Most people get through it in 45 minutes to an hour, which makes it ideal for a morning before heading into Bridlington proper.

If you've got kids, they'll either love the woodland exploring bit or get restless depending on their age. Teenagers after Instagram shots will find it dull. Walkers will appreciate it as a gentle leg-stretcher between seaside days. The main thing to know is there's not much signposting, so it helps if you're comfortable finding your own way through trees.

Staying at one of the holiday parks nearby - Bridlington Caravan and Motorhome Club is basically on your doorstep at 0.3 miles - makes this a useful addition to a week by the seaside. It's not worth planning a trip around, but if you're already in the area, it beats another lap of the promenade. Free to access, no facilities that I'm aware of, so bring what you need.
