Clyne Valley Brick and Tile Works

Industrial archaeology doesn't get much more atmospheric than this sprawling ruin just outside Swansea. The old brick and tile works sits in the Clyne Valley like a forgotten monument to Wales' manufacturing past, with crumbling kilns and overgrown foundations telling the story of an industry that once employed hundreds.

What remains today is largely skeletal - brick archways, collapsed roofs, and the occasional intact wall where ivy hasn't completely taken hold. It's proper explorer territory rather than a manicured heritage site, which means you'll need decent footwear and a sense of adventure. The setting is lovely though, with the valley providing a green backdrop to the red brick ruins.

History enthusiasts and photographers will find plenty to occupy them here, though families with young children might struggle with the uneven terrain and lack of facilities. There's no visitor centre or guided tours - just you and the remnants of industrial Wales.

The site works well as part of a wider exploration of the Gower Peninsula, especially if you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks like Three Cliffs Bay or Nicholaston Farm.
