The industrial heart of Wales meets rolling green hills in this corner of Swansea that most visitors never see. SA6 takes in Morriston and the surrounding valleys, where Victorian terraces give way to proper Welsh countryside within minutes. It's gritty, genuine, and completely unpretentious.

Morriston itself was built around the copper works - you can still visit the Sir Ludwig Mond historic site to understand how this shaped the area. The town centre revolves around Morriston Library and the leisure centre, with a few decent pubs scattered about. It's quiet midweek, but comes alive at weekends when the rugby's on.

What makes this area special is how quickly you escape into the hills. Mynydd Drumau and Craig y Pal-Glais offer cracking views back towards Swansea Bay, while Graig Ola is a proper climb that rewards with panoramas across the Gower Peninsula. The peaks here aren't Snowdonia, but they're well worth the trek on a clear day.

For golfers, Morriston Golf Club provides a decent round with some challenging holes carved into the hillside. The course gets busy at weekends, so book ahead if you're planning a game.

Getting here is straightforward - Llansamlet train station connects to Swansea city centre, or it's a 15-minute drive from the M4. The nearby holiday parks along the River Tawe make an excellent base for exploring both Swansea's urban attractions and the wilder bits of the Gower Peninsula, which starts just south of here. You're close enough to nip into the city for dinner, but far enough out to wake up to birdsong rather than traffic.
