Clogwyn Gwyn

Standing at 365 metres, this modest summit near Talsarnau offers surprisingly good views across the Dwyryd estuary without the crowds that flock to Snowdonia's bigger peaks. The walk up is fairly straightforward - a proper path most of the way, though it gets a bit boggy in places after rain. You'll spot the distinctive white quartzite rock that gives Clogwyn Gwyn its name (it means 'white cliff' in Welsh) scattered about the summit area.

Families with older children will manage the ascent fine, though toddlers might struggle with the final rocky section. The real payoff comes at the top where you get cracking views south towards Harlech Castle and north across to the Rhinogydd mountains. On a clear day, you can see right out to Cardigan Bay.

Allow about two hours for the round trip from the nearest parking spot. Early morning or late afternoon light shows off the coastal views at their best. It's free to climb, naturally, and accessible year-round though winter conditions can make the path slippery.
